We got off to a good start this morning and made it to Lake Atitlan by noon. The bus ride was easy and I didn't even get sick. It was hard to say goodbye to the Tuc's in Xela. They are a very kind family and we genuinely enjoyed living with them and can't thank them enough for their hospitality.
Panachal is a cute little town on the shore of lake Atitlan which is suppose to be the "world's most beautiful lake". It is in the top of a dormant volcano and is surrounded by three huge volcanoes. There are several other small towns around the lake that we plan to go visit tomorrow. We decided to splurge and stay at a "nice" hotel for the next two days ($50 a night). Its so nice to have real hot water and we even have a television, I feel like we are at a fancy resort.
View of Lake Atitlan from the bus on our way to Panachel (which is on the lake).
View of the lake from the shore of panachel right before a big rain storm. This lake is over 300m deep and is really the crater of the top of a volcano. Cool!
The main street in Panachel.
During lunch it started to rain so hard we couldn't even hear each other talk. So we decided to just keep working our way through the menu. Yumm!! It was the first full real meal I had eaten in over a week and man did it taste good! After two hours of waiting for it to stop raining we decided to take a Tuk-tuk back to the hotel, the tuk-tuks are just way to cute and fun to ride in!
During our lunch the afternoon downpours began and did not let up. It makes so much noise on the tin roofs that it is unbelievable! The streets start to become rivers when it rains this hard.
